Milk was down two pounds last month. What changed?

Every dairy makes dozens of changes a year: new feed additives, a pen restructure, a new milker on second shift, a fan bank that went down in July. Three weeks later, when a number moves, the record of what you did lives in somebody's memory and a whiteboard in the office. Farm Timeline, now available in Spade Farm, is where that record goes instead.

Log the day you open the new corn silage bunker, and Timeline shows you what intake, milk, and components did over the next 7, 14, 21, or 30 days. Over time, it builds a history of what worked on your farm and what didn't.

Event detail — before and after a ration change

Name it, pick a category — Nutrition & Feed, Herd Management, Equipment, Labor & Staffing, Weather / Environmental, or Other — set the date, and choose whether it touched the whole herd, one pen, or a pen type. Backdate as far as you like, or log up to three days ahead so tomorrow's ration change gets entered while you're thinking about it.

See what moved.

The category loads the KPIs that kind of change usually touches. A feed event brings up dry matter intake, dry matter fed per head, feed cost per head per day and refusals. Pick an impact window — 7, 14, 21 or 30 days — and each metric shows the period before the change against the period after, with the direction and the size of the move. Add any other KPI from the catalog: feed, herd, production, financial or weather.

Timeline view for working through an event and its numbers. Calendar view for seeing a month at a glance — including the week where three things happened at once. Filter by category in either.

One thing we want to say plainly

weeks

Timeline shows you correlation, not causation. A single farm compared against its own past has no control group, and plenty else changes in any seven-day window. Use it to narrow down what to look into. The full guide covers where that line sits and how to read a window honestly.

Already using Spade Farm? Timeline is in your left-hand menu now. Questions, or something you want it to do that it doesn't? Tell your Spade contact — this one is early and we're actively taking feedback.
